Online Introduction to Biometrics Course
Biometrics Services International, LLC (BSI) is pleased to announce the availability of an on-line Introduction to Biometrics course. The course is ideally suited for managers and technicians, as well as senior executives and administrative support staff desiring to gain or improve their working knowledge of Biometrics and prior biometric experience is not necessary.
The course consists of four (4) modules, each addressing separate topic areas:

- Origins and history of Biometrics
- A description of how Biometrics function
- Comparison of Biometrics with alternatives
- Module 2 - Biometric Modalities
- Definitions
- Biometric Devices (four mainstream technologies)
- Emerging Biometric technologies
- Module 3 - Biometric Applications
- Definitions
- Government and Private Sector uses of Biometric devices
- Case Studies
- Biometric Lifecycle and Cost Analysis considerations
- Module 4 - Spoofing, Standards, Issues and Concerns
- Definitions
- Types of attacks and methods of attacking biometric devices and systems
- Countermeasures to defend against attacks
- Biometric Standards; their benefits and groups tasked with standards development
- Prominent issues and concerns related to the use of Biometrics
- The Future of Biometrics
The total time required for the course is approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes. The course may be taken in one session or by module. The duration of Module 1 is 22 minutes and consists of 24 charts. Module 2 is 14 minutes and contains 21 charts. Modules 3 and 4 are 20 and 21 minutes and 18 and 24 charts respectively.

Instructions
- The link above leads to the Network Learning Alliance (NLA) web page, where the course is hosted.
- New users must click the link, "Click here to register." This link is directly beneath the Username and Password boxes.
- New users will complete New User Registration by entering their first and last name, email address, and company. Users may select their affiliation from the existing list or they may add a new entry.
- Next, the user clicks "Submit." This action prompts the generation of an email from NLA Support that will contain a link to NLA's web site and the user's Username and Password.
- Using their Username and Password, the user is able to login and proceed to the course.
- If the course does not immediately appear, the user should go to the Content Library and enter "Introduction to Biometrics" in the course search box.
